Kids love flashlights. Finger lights are a simple toy to keep them entertained.
When you’re stuck in the house for long periods of time, you’re looking for almost anything you can find that will keep the kids entertained. After months of being stuck inside due to the pandemic which started last year, and coming back with winter time, parents are getting desperate for ideas.
We totally understand where that desperation is coming from - we’re finding ourselves in a similar situation. While laundry baskets may entertain your kids for a few days, they won’t last forever. If you can get your child into reading, that will often be something that they can also do every single day on their own. Puzzles and board games are also great ideas as well.
Kids seem to love flashlights. If you let them have a flashlight, they’ll likely be enamored with the ability to turn it on or off. They can sit and play with a flashlight for as long as you’ll let them most of the time. The big downside with a flashlight is that you generally have that light for emergencies. If you let your child play with it, you’re not going to be able to find it when you need it. Furthermore, if you buy a child their own flashlight, they’re much more likely to get into your flashlight that’s not for them.
We recently went looking for a flashlight for our kids, and instead stumbled on these mini finger flashlights. We’ve seen these lights before (they sell them at the store), but had never thought to buy them previously. These lights are meant to strap on to your child’s finger with a rubber band that comes on the light.
The lights themselves come in four different colors, and there are plenty of them to go around. You’re not going to need to worry about kids fighting over getting the light that they want as you’ll have more than enough. Kids will still be prone to fight over the lights, but they’re prone to fight over anything.
Because you get red, blue, and white lights, you can turn them all on and it looks like the police are coming. Get into a dark room, turn the mini lights on and swing them around a little bit. You can then arrest your child and send them to jail for not following whichever rule they’ve decided to break. Obviously, let your own kids arrest each other as well :).
These lights work well if taken outside in the dark, or at home. While they don’t hold up super well to a lot of abuse or water/snow, they do fine outside. The lights also last surprisingly long as well - they will generally last through most of the night although will be quite dim in the morning. The biggest downside to these lights is that they can be hard for younger children to turn on or off.
If you’re looking for yet another activity for doing indoors, some mini finger lights will never hurt. Kids can find plenty of different activities to use them with.
