Winter is upon us. Find the toys to help make it through.
As winter continues on, and the white stuff on the ground won’t seem to go away, embracing it seems like the best options. Getting out in the snow is a lot of work with kids. You’ve got to get them dressed up and then yourself dressed up. Be sure to check if they need to go to the bathroom before you get them all bundled up because they are invariably going to need to go right after you’ve finally got them all zipped up.
If your kids do not love to play in the snow, perhaps a few toys for the snow will help convince them. The following toys are some of our favorites that the kids love to play with. They also just love to play in the snow, and they’d be out there all day if we let them.
Sno-Art Kit
Instead of letting your kids pee in the snow to make it colorful, it’s probably a better idea to buy this kit of colors. It has more than just yellow, and your kids can make whatever they want in the snow out of it. You can play games, draw cool things, or just use it to mix colors with the kids.
This kit is really easy to use - all you do is mix the kit with warm water and it’s ready to go. Nothing complicated about it. The paint will last for quite awhile, although it will fade pretty quickly after initial use, so don’t plan for anything that’s going to last overnight. This pack also comes with a couple of molds as well which younger kids tend to enjoy a little bit more.
Snow Brick Mold
If you’re going to have a snowball fight, or simply want to build a cool snow house, then a snow brick mold is a must have item. We’ve written about this little tool in the past - it’s super simple to use, and you can make a really cool snow house with it if you have the time and patience.
A really fun thing to do is to build your snow house, and then color it how you want with the Sno-Art kit. Kids can be pretty creative with how they design their houses, and it’s not permanent as if you’d let them paint their room, so there are no worries about letting them have at it.
Sled
Snow means that going down the hill on a sled is a must. Having a quality sled will make the difference between a fun day and a great day. While having a saucer type sled can be a lot of fun, it’s also extremely dangerous. If your kids are a bit older, you may feel comfortable with them on it, but you are asking for trouble with younger kids.
Get a good quality sled for playing in the snow. It’s an absolute blast to be able to go fast, but also control where you’re going down the hill. Sledding is a great way to really move as well - you’ll become winded quickly going up and down that hill. If you’ve got a small child, you’ll really get a workout pulling the sled and carrying the child up that hill - I’ve been there and it is an unbelievably good workout.
Conclusion
Get out in the snow, and have a fun time with your kids. Playing in the snow is one of those things that takes a lot of upfront work, but is definitely worth it once you’re out there.
