Snow is great for having fun with snowballs.
Getting out in the snow is one of the things we highly recommend around here. While it takes a lot of work to get everyone ready to go, it can be so much fun for everyone involved, and it’s a great way to get your heart pumping a bit faster during the winter months when you’re generally stuck inside.
One of the fun things to do in the winter is to have snowball fights. Of course, snowballs are a bit dangerous, so you have to teach your kids how to be safe with them. As long as you’re not having actual fights with them, then you should be good.
There are a few different games you can play with snowballs - throw them as far as you can, set up a simple target to try and hit, or throw them as high as you can. Those are just a few of the games we like to play when making snowballs. When we’re throwing snow at each other, we don’t make it into actual balls - we just get clumps of snow that we throw underhand at each other.
Younger kids can often have a tough time making a snowball or throwing it far. Fortunately, there are plenty of toys out there that will help with that. Below are just a few ideas of toys that we’ve found are fun to use in the snow for making and playing with snowballs.
Snowball makers
We really like these snowball makers. They allow for making nearly perfectly round snowballs and they’re easier for most kids to use. Kids' hands generally aren’t big enough to make a decent snowball. These toys allow for a perfectly round snowball of a decent size. They may have trouble holding them, but just having a nice round snowball is awesome.
Snowball throwers
Beyond just making a snowball, you’ll want to be able to throw it a long distance. In order to help the kids out throw you, simply grab some of these snowball throwers. They allow for the snowball to go quite a long distance. You shouldn’t use these too close to other homes as you’ll be paying for broken windows more often than you want. Take these to an area without homes in the area so you and your kids can throw the snowballs a good distance.
Collection of Snow Toys
If you can’t make up your mind, then this collection of snow toys is a great choice. It has snowball makers, shovels, and buckets. This is great for kids of all ages as they can simply dig the snow to start, and then move into snowballs as they grow older. This also contains a little snow block maker which we love - making snow houses is one of our favorite winter activities. Overall, there's a great variety in this pack of toys to make a fun day in the snow.
