Your fitness routine is a reward, not a chore.

Waking up early to workout can sometimes seem like a bit of a chore. Getting out of the house and moving can sometimes seem like it’s going to be impossible. Breathing hard after an intense workout may seem tough in the moment. Whether or not your workout was the best ever or barely done, working out is a reward for you and for your body. If you are not enjoying your workouts, then it’s time to make a change.

Not every workout is going to be the most fun. There are going to be days where you wake up and simply don’t feel like working out (or doing anything else for that matter). The key to days like this is to simply get up and do something rather than nothing. A lot of times you’ll actually get into the routine and get your blood flowing enough that you’ll feel much better afterwards. But even if you don’t, it’s important that you at least do something.

A key to making this work is doing something that you actually enjoy for your fitness routine. If you’re suffering through running, for example, you’re not going to want to get up and do it. If on the other hand you love a jumping routine you found online, then you’re going to enjoy it much more. There’s no reason that you should be suffering through workouts that you don’t enjoy and like doing.

Working out is a reward to your body for getting it into shape. You’re able to workout because you have taken care of your body and you’ve got into shape enough that you can work out. If you’re lifting weights, your body is able to hold that weight up and you’re flexible enough to actually complete those lifts. Depending on where you started, you may not have been able to do that to start.

If you’re struggling with finding motivation for working out, then there are a couple of places that you should look at in your life. The first, as we already discussed, is to look at your routine that you’re doing. You need to find something that you actually enjoy doing. Don’t let gender boundaries stop you from trying something that is generally only done by the other gender - if there’s a class at your local gym that you’d enjoy, then do it. If you want to lift weights, then get out there and do it.

The other place to look is at your sleep schedule. This is an especially common area that is a problem for parents with younger children. You’re not getting enough sleep at night, so getting up to work out is going to be tough. Getting enough sleep is key to having the energy you need to actually be able to work out. If you’re struggling with sleep right now, look at how you can work on fixing that problem. Work with your partner to see if there are areas that they can help. If you have a newborn baby, you may simply not have an option at the current time.

Sleeping and doing what you enjoy are important, but it’s also important to make sure that you’re eating correctly as well. Working out when you aren’t eating enough or you’re eating a lot of unhealthy foods is quite difficult. You won’t have the energy that you need to be able to really complete your workouts effectively. Figure out how to get enough protein in your diet and don’t overeat - those two things will help you to have the energy you need for working out.

Working out is a reward for you and your body. Find something that you love to do, get enough sleep, and eat correctly so that you can make the most of your fitness routine. Being healthy will let you enjoy many other activities in life much more than you would otherwise.
