Vegetables are filling and healthy - they’ll help you on your diet.
Losing weight is not very easy to do. Sure, the concept is simple, but when it comes to actually implementing the concept it can be difficult to do. The simple part is that you have to eat less calories than you burn. This means that you either need to eat less food or else you need to eat lower calorie dense foods. This of course sounds easy, but there are a lot of things working against you being successful.
First and foremost, low calorie dense foods are the foods that are not super sweet. You are not going to be eating a bunch of cookies or candy if you’re eating low-calorie dense foods. Those sweet foods are the ones that are keeping you from reaching your goals. If you want to lose weight, you’re going to have to remove those items from your diet. You’re going to need to replace them with something else.
Perhaps the easiest way to lose weight is to simply eat more healthy foods - namely foods that are low in calories compared to their size. Vegetables are probably the best option for low calorie dense foods. You can eat as many vegetables in a day as you want, and you’ll almost certainly be eating less calories than you need to maintain your weight - you’ll be able to lose weight.
Because vegetables are so voluminous compared to how many calories you take in, you’ll simply be too full to overeat. That’s one of the primary reasons that vegetables are a staple of any diet where you’re going to lose weight - you can eat a lot more vegetables than you can eat something like chips or cookies. Try to find vegetables that you like and focus on eating plenty of that vegetable.
A good idea is to have some sliced vegetables available at all times in your fridge. When you get hungry or need a quick snack, go to your fridge and grab your vegetables rather than grabbing chips from the pantry. We always have carrots, celery, and cucumbers in the fridge and we grab them whenever we’re hungry. Yes, we eat a lot of carrots some weeks, but it’s far better than the alternative.
We also have onions and spinach in some form with at least one meal a day - spinach is a great source of vitamins that you don’t normally get, and it’s super low in calories. While it’s not our favorite vegetable when eaten alone, adding it to other meals will let you spice it up a little bit. Adding a little bit of salad dressing or mustard (yes, mustard) to spinach will actually make it taste better if you’re eating it on it’s own.
Tomatoes are one of our favorite vegetables, but we don’t always eat them year round. Enjoy them while they’re fresh. If you have another favorite vegetable, be sure to make it a staple in many of your meals. Eating foods that you actually like makes it easier to want more of them to eat. Adding vegetables to basically any meal will allow you to eat a little bit more food without adding a bunch of calories.
If you’re trying to lose weight, eat more vegetables. They are high in volume compared to the number of calories that they contain. You feel full, but not overeat.
