Making breakfast can be a real struggle sometimes. Whether you like to sleep in in the mornings, or don’t have the energy to make breakfast everyday, it’s not always easy to make something in the morning.

While cereal is the simple solution for kids in the morning, it’s probably one of the least healthy options. There are cereals that don’t have a lot of sugar in them, but most kids don’t really like to eat them. Regardless, eating cereal everyday for breakfast is not something I’d recommend - it can get old really fast.

We have a whole series on making easy and healthy breakfasts for kids. There are several ideas of how you can make meals for your kids that they’ll enjoy that are also healthy for them. However, sometimes any amount of having to prepare is just too much. There are always days that you don’t want to do anything.

On days like this, it’s nice to have a frozen meal in the freezer that you can pull out and give to your kids. While you can buy pre-made breakfast foods, they’re generally more expensive, and can be less healthy. If you have to though, then just be mindful that you're not buying foods that aren't loaded with sugar.

Rather than buying pre-made meals at the store, I like to make my own pre-made meals. For breakfast, that generally means that I am making two or three times the normal amount so that we can freeze the food for later.

We really like frozen waffles and pancakes for a few different reasons. Unlike some of the other items that we eat for breakfast, these items usually take a little bit longer to prepare. As such, there’s not always time to prepare them in the mornings. By freezing extras, we can pop them out of the freezer and into the toaster to warm up. You can add all of the same toppings as if they were cooked fresh as well.

Additionally, we like to freeze our own waffles and pancakes as we have a recipe that we’ve found that our kids and us like. The store bought items don’t give anywhere near the same taste or flavor. We also have a protein infused batter that we make that is just a bit healthier than the standard waffle or pancake mix - it allows us to control what we put into them.

We’re also able to get the waffles out for another meal if we’re feeling like eating breakfast foods for some other meal besides breakfast. Dinner can be waffles with peanut butter and syrup if we feel like it - one of my favorites that I haven’t convinced my kids to actually try yet. Since I’m on an intermittent fasting diet, I don’t get to eat a lot of breakfast foods at breakfast time, so it works out really well for me.

There are a lot of different foods you can freeze and eat later - waffles and pancakes are some of the simplest options, but watch for a few future meals that you can freeze that are a bit tastier.
