If you’re able, enjoy the day with your family and those that you love.

Thanksgiving is one of the best holidays in the United States. It’s one of the few days in the year that almost everything is shut down throughout the country (at least until the evening), and it’s a great day to spend with your family and loved ones. Make the most of Thanksgiving by doing things that make you happy.

First off, thank you to all of those people who must work on Thanksgiving - generally these are healthcare workers and essential employees throughout the United States. The work that you do on a daily basis makes a difference in the lives of everyone around you. Fortunately, Thanksgiving is a holiday that can be celebrated on other days as well for those that are required to work.

For those of us who are able to have it off, it’s a great time to spend with your family. Whether you’re making a huge meal, heading out to a restaurant, or simply enjoying a quiet day at home, make sure to spend a few minutes to think about the things that you are truly thankful for. If you’re able to, write them down along with a few words of why you’re grateful for them.

For me, I have many things to be thankful for. By far the number one thing in my life is my family - my wife and two sons. I am fortunate to have the opportunity to write about our experiences and how we make the most out of our days here on this site, but there are so many little things that they do for me on a daily basis that makes life so much better.

My kids are both growing up so fast, and I realize that there are times that I don’t fully appreciate them and the things that they’re doing. However, I love being able to learn and grow with them, and when they make me smile and make me proud, it really is the best part about being a parent.

Beyond my family, I’m grateful for a stable job that I’m able to go to and that prioritizes it’s employees and the safety of everyone. I hear plenty of horror stories about those with jobs that simply don’t care about the people that work for them, and I realize that I’m truly lucky to have a place to work that really does care about the people that work for them. Additionally, it’s in a field that allows me to make a difference on a daily basis.

Finally, I’m grateful for my health and the health of my family. I realize that thousands of people struggle each day with different health related problems, and simply being able to wake up healthy each morning and not have to worry about how we’ll make it through the day is truly a blessing.

There are so many other things to be grateful for, and I keep a regular and updated list of things in my life that I’m grateful for. Be sure to do the same.
