Losing weight requires that you’re mindful of what you eat.
You are not going to outwork a bad diet in order to lose weight. There is a myth out there that the easy way to lose weight is to simply work out more. Unfortunately, working out is not going to help you lose weight if you are eating really unhealthy already. Working out simply does not burn enough calories to make it a successful strategy. The only way you will be able to lose weight is to be mindful of what you eat.
It’s really easy to eat a lot of calories in a very short amount of time. Sure, if you’re only eating salad and vegetables, then you’ll have a hard time overeating. However, if you’re eating junk food and candy, you can easily eat more calories than you need in a single sitting. There’s a reason that you want to eat more candy and sweets - they’re made to be addicting so that you keep coming back for more.
While it’s easy to consume a lot of calories quickly, it’s much harder to burn those calories off. You’ll spend an hour running for 5 minutes of eating junk food - it’s really that bad. You’re not going to be able to out-run a bad diet. It’s the unfortunate fact that you really don’t want to hear. You’d rather hear that you can simply workout for an hour a day and then eat whatever you want - it would sure be nice.
If you’re serious about getting your weight under control, then you need to take a look at your diet. Are you eating more calories than you’re burning? Are you drinking your calories through soda or juice? Are you eating snacks in the middle of the night and not counting them in your calorie counts? Whatever the case, you need to make sure you’re tracking all of your calories, not just some of them.
Once you know what you’re eating, you need to figure out how much you should be eating to maintain your weight. Simply knowing how many calories you eat in a day is the first step. Weight yourself everyday as you count your calories - this will help you understand how many calories you need to maintain, lose, or gain weight. If you’re eating 3500 calories a day, and the scale keeps going up, then you know that’s too much.
Your next step is to figure out how many calories you need to lose or maintain weight. After one week of measuring your calorie intake and your weight, lower your calorie intake by 200-500 calories depending on how much weight you’ve gained over the last week. After one week, it’s time to measure again. Did you lose weight or not? If not, then it’s time to reduce your calories again. Repeat this process until you’re losing weight.
While working on your diet, you can simultaneously be working out as well. Working out is a great way to help get your body into better shape and to live a long and healthy life. While it may help aid in weight loss, it’s primary purpose is to keep your body strong and healthy. Losing weight is done through mindful and healthy eating. Getting strong and healthy is done through working out.
You need to be mindful of what you eat. It will help prolong your life, and allow you to get to and maintain a healthy weight.
