Kids sometimes need a nightlight in their room - choose something fun.

Sleeping is hard sometimes. It doesn’t matter what age you are, but sometimes you simply don’t want to go to sleep. While you may be thinking about your kids in this regard, it’s also very true for many adults - it takes them a while to wind down and get to sleep at night. Another common reason that kids can’t go to sleep is because it’s too dark in their room - they’re scared of the dark and so can’t sleep.

Being scared of the dark is something that people will often grow out of as they get older. Kids generally start by sleeping in the dark without issue, but as they grow and learn about some of the weird things in this world, they’ll become scared of the dark. Perhaps there’s something under the bed, or they’re afraid of the dark corner. Whatever the reason, kids won’t want to sleep in the dark any longer.

This isn’t necessarily a bad thing - it’s certainly not a big deal to have to have a light on for your child to sleep. It may actually be a good thing as well in one sense. Your child can fall asleep in non-total darkness. There are plenty of people that have problems falling asleep when there’s even a little bit of light around. If your kids can keep their ability to fall asleep regardless of how bright it is, you’ll generally have a much easier time getting them to sleep wherever you are.

It may sound funny, but it really is nice to have kids that will fall asleep with a light on. If you’ve ever had a child or know an adult who struggles with this, then you’ll know what we’re talking about. It’s hard to control the sleeping conditions when you’re out of the house, and so being able to sleep when conditions aren’t perfect is really really helpful as a parent and as an adult (for yourself).

In terms of actual nightlights, there are a lot of options out there. While boring and simple is fine, there are also a lot of fun options out there as well. Kids will appreciate a unique night light for their room. Having boring nightlights in the hallway is totally fine though as those are really meant more for helping people move around the house safely if they wake up at night. Go with something fun for your kids though.

Below are a few of our favorites - we’ve had most of these and we’ve really liked them.

  • LED night lights. These are the boring ones that you put in the hall or bathrooms. These are great because they sense the light and will automatically turn on and off depending on how bright it is. These are quite bright, so it makes moving through the hall or finding your way into the bathroom really easy at night. You also don’t have to turn on a bunch of lights to go to the bathroom with these either so you’re not forcing your eyes to get used to a bright light in the middle of the night. Buy Now
  • Nursery bear light. This is a fun one for kids. It changes colors, looks like a bear, and can cycle through the colors. This is also nice because it can go with you fairly easily if you’re headed somewhere for the night. This can last forever if you don’t lose the remote - the hardest part of this night light. Buy Now
  • Star projector. This is a great option for older kids. There are several different scenes which can be projected onto the ceiling with this one, and they look cool in a smaller room. This can be pretty bright if you use the regular light, so just keep it out of the way a little if using that feature. Buy Now
  • Dinosaur night light. Another great option for older kids that are into dinosaurs. This projects different scenes onto the wall and they’re easy to change out. If your child is scared of the dark, but not a big dinosaur on the wall, this is a great choice. Buy Now

Buying a night light for your child can be fun. There are a lot of options out there, so buy something that they’ll enjoy and will make their room a little more exciting.
