Enjoy spending time with your family and have a simple celebration.

The 4th of July is an exciting holiday in the United States. It’s a day of spending time with family, eating delicious food off the barbecue, and fireworks and celebration. You don’t need to do anything special to really make the 4th of July a fun holiday for you and your family. We’ll look at a few ideas of things you can do to make the holiday a memorable time for everyone.

The 4th of July is the day we celebrate the freedom of the United States. It’s a day of being grateful for the country we live in (even if there are things that we dislike about what’s going on in the country). Spend some time with your kids helping them to find things in their life that they enjoy because of the freedom we have. For example, the ability to express our opinions is not something everyone enjoys, the ability to believe what we want and worship how we choose. Helping children to start understanding this early on in life will help them be more grateful for what they have.

Celebrating on the 4th of July can include as many or as few of the following activities as you want. There’s really no wrong way to celebrate, but try to do something a little different to set the day apart for you and your kids.

Sleep in

Take the day and sleep in. Oftentimes, you are going to be spending the evening up late with kids. Try to sleep in on the day of celebrations. Of course, this is often easier said than done. Your best bet may be to take turns with your partner so that one of you sleeps in on the day of the festivities and the other the day after. Simply try to get enough sleep so that you can have a positive attitude and really enjoy the time you’ll get to spend with your kids.

Throw a football

There is nothing much more American than getting an American football out and throwing it around with your kids. Playing football with kids can be a really fun activity, even if you don’t really like football yourself. If you don’t have a football on hand, or you’d prefer another activity, then get out and be active. Whether it’s throwing a baseball, kicking a soccer ball, or throwing a frisbee with your kids, simply getting out and being active with kids is a great way to spend a bit of time with the ones that you love.

Have a barbecue

Of course, no 4th of July celebration would be complete without some type of food on the barbecue. Make whatever you and your family enjoy - we enjoy chicken and vegetables. Onions, squash, zucchini, peppers, and whatever else you like are all delicious when cooked on the grill. Barbecue foods can be healthy while still being really tasty, but as with all celebrations you can enjoy the unhealthy stuff some of the time too.

Do fireworks

Be careful and safe if you’re doing your own fireworks. Kids love to watch and see fireworks go off, so if you can afford it and can do so safely, then do your own fireworks. However, even if you can’t do fireworks you can still enjoy the fireworks that will be shot off. You may have to take a little trip to get to a location to view them. Another option is to simply do sparklers at home and sit outside and watch the sunset while the kids play. Sitting around, enjoying the company of family without the stress of expectations on a warm summer evening is an extremely relaxing and enjoyable experience.

Sleep in the tent

If you’ve got a backyard where you can set your own tent up, then sleeping in the tent is usually another activity that most kids will enjoy. Don’t expect to get to sleep quickly if your kids are not used to sleeping outside, but be prepared for a fun night. This very well could be a highlight for your child. Hopefully you were able to sleep in in the morning, or at very least can get a nap the day after.

Conclusion

Simply find some basic activities that are out of the ordinary for you and your family and enjoy them. Don’t stress too much about the day - if things don’t go perfectly, it’s all about the experience and spending time with the ones that you love.
